Seeing Ronda’s remarkable location
Ronda has an impossible location for a town. Ronda has a narrow gorge that splits it into two. Most of its whitewashed buildings are perched on a cliff’s edge to match the natural landscape perfectly. Farmland surrounds the whole village in the distance area of Serranía de Ronda Mountains. River Guadalevín has a complete waterfall that dribbles the gorge that cuts the town in two halves. It is worth mentioning that the location of Ronda is amazingly enchanting.
Learning Ronda’s History
Ronda is one of the Spanish’s oldest towns. The town has been in existence since the period of Julius Caesar, the fourth century AD. The town has passed through the hands of the Visigoths and the Arabs.
Ronda is home to the Roman ruins that mingle with the Arabic ruins. You can visit the old Baños Árabes built in the 13th and 14th centuries while in Ronda. You can also visit the Islamic stone stair, the La Mina and go to the bottom of the gorge.
Experiencing the romantic sunsets
On the edge of Ronda, there is a mirador that offers a great lookout, perched right on the cliff. Visit mirador at the right time, and you will enjoy the most magnificent views of a red cinder sun. Stroll around the escarpment. You will see the whitewashed building change color as the sun goes down the horizon.
Marveling at its Puente Nuevo
Visit Ronda to see its new bridge Puente Nuevo. The bridge spans 100m chasm over the El Tajo gorge.
Wandering through La Ciudad
Ciudad is one of those typical Andalusian towns of teeny tiny alleyways with cobblestoned roads and flowers gushing over whitewashed walls. Walking through the bridge will let you view and admire the dry hills that surround the countryside.
Enjoyed so much your article and photo of Ronda, the lovely Spanish village in Andalusia. Was fortunate to visit there some 20 years ago and recall the bridge over the huge gorge in the middle of town and the neat little White House’s along the edge. Also visited Bregenz, another one of your favorite towns. I am so thankful to hear these great memories of traveling the world — which is no longer possible at
my age (92) and physical condition .
