Located in the Central portion of the state of Florida, Orlando is known for its more than 100 lakes. One of these, Lake Eola, is a sinkhole with a maximum depth of 80 feet. Orlando is popular among tourists because of the number of events and conventions held there each year. Additionally, the city is home to numerous internationally known attractions, including World Disney World and Universal Studios.

Because of the sheer number of tourists that visit Orlando each year, its airport is the 29th busiest one in the world. It has been estimated that about 70 million people visit Orlando every year, which means that each day, the number of tourists that visit the city is equivalent to the entire population of Atlanta, GA!

Orlando was once the heart of Florida’s citrus industry, but in the 1800s, a record-low winter freeze forced citrus farmers to move farther south. Today, Orlando’s primary industry is technology. Aviation and aerospace, software design, and digital media. The metro area is home to the headquarters of more than 150 international companies.

  • It is the fourth largest city in the state of Florida.
  • Orlando is also known by either of its two nicknames: “O-Town” or “The City Beautiful.”

Orlando Attractions:

  • Disney World – Covering nearly 25,000 acres of land, this resort complex, which opened its doors in 1971, is formed by four theme parks, including Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios.
  • Orlando Museum of Art – Founded in 1924, the museum is formed by a series of temporary and permanent exhibits and continuous education programs.
  • Universal Studios – Featuring several attractions based on different films, including E.T., Back To The Future, and Ghostbusters, Universal Studios opened its doors to the public in 1990.
