Nafplio is a seaport town in the Peloponnese, only two hours away from the Greek capital, Athens. This city holds the enviable title as the first capital of Modern Greece. It offers a combination of breathing beaches and alluring picturesque alleys, including Venetian architecture and Ottoman structures. Taking a walk through the narrow paved streets of the Old Town can only be equated to a therapeutic trip to the past.

  • Climb up the Palamidi Castle: The Palamidi castle is undoubtedly one of the most lovely castles in Greece. Built in 1686 by the Venetians, the Palamidi Castle stands at 216 meters above sea level and offers stunning panoramic views to anyone who can hike up the 999 steps to the top.
  • Visit the Archaeological Museum of Nafplio: A visit to the Archaeological Museum of Nafplio offers unmatched opportunities to explore the history of Nafplio. The museum exhibits important artifacts from the Mycenaean and the Prehistoric Era. It also showcases an exceptional collection of Worry Beads that have become synonymous with Nafplio city.
  • Take a boat ride to Bourtzi: Bourtzi is another beautiful Venetian fortress located on the islet of Agioi Theodoroi. The fortress was initially built to wade off pirates but was later turned into the spot for executing Palamidi prisoners. Bourtzi was also home to a Byzantine church that was dedicated to Saint Theodoros.
