Megève is a small town situated in Southeastern France. To be exact, it is very close to that country’s borders with both Italy and Switzerland, meaning that it is in the French Alps. In the present, as in the past, Megève is best known for being a ski resort.
Megève, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
- By most standards, Megève isn’t a very old town. This is because it started coming into being in the 1910s, which was when the Rothschild family started vacationing in the vicinity rather than at the Swiss resort of St. Moritz.
- Unsurprisingly, this means that Megève has become a popular tourist destination for the rich. This is reflected by the high real estate prices in the region.
- The town isn’t limited to skiing. Other winter sports such as curling, skating, and sledding are common around Megève as well. For that matter, the town is also a popular tourist destination during the summertime, not least because of the golfing opportunities that can be found there.
- As mentioned earlier, Megève is situated in the French Alps. In particular, it is located close to Mont Blanc, which is the highest mountain in the whole of Western Europe. Said mountain is a place of note from a historical perspective as well. After all, one of the towns in its surroundings was the site of the very first Winter Olympics in 1924. Nowadays, Mont Blanc continues to offer plenty of opportunities for winter sports for interested individuals, with Megève being one of the leading sites in the region.
So, the town of the first Winter Olympics is called Chamonix-Mont Blanc, just saying..
Megeve is a charming village but the skiing is just ok not excellent because the altitude is low, compared to other French Alps resorts, being only at 1100 meters altitude.
