Maseru is the capital and largest city of Lesotho. It is located on the left bank of the Caledon River, which is close to the Free State province, South Africa. The town was founded by the chief of Sotho in 1869 near Thaba Bosiu, his mountain stronghold.
The top attractions of Maseru are:
- Katse Dam
- Maluti Mountains
- Lesotho Sun Casino
- Pioneer Mall
Katse Dam
The Katse Dam is worth a visit. Why? Well, the dam provides about 72 megawatts of electricity for the country of Lesotho and earns millions of rands in revenue for being South Africa’s water supply system. The dam is surrounded by beautiful, photographic flora as well as birdlife. Visit the dam during the cold winter months, and you’ll find all this beauty sprinkled with frosty snow.
Maluti Mountains
These beautiful mountains extend about 100 kilometers into the Free State. The mountains are also referred to as Jaco Van Tonder or sometimes the Blue Mountains. The jagged mountain sides and towering peaks give guests a challenging and unique playground for various things. Maluti merely means mountains or in the mountains.
Lesotho Sun Casino
If you’re looking for a little fun, then this is the place to be. This refined hotel has a casino, spa, dining, and cocktail bar, as well as an outdoor pool. This place is luxurious, to say the least.
Pioneer Mall
The mall was opened in October 2006 and has since been satisfying its customers. The mall is not short on fun; it offers chain restaurants and other numerous services and retail stores. This is the place for a shopper and a food lover to be.
The above-mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg. Maseru has even more to offer, so make your way there if you haven’t already.
