Les Deux Alpes is a ski resort situated in the province of Isère, France. It is found almost 300 km away from Paris and sits at an altitude of 2650 m. The spot was developed in 1961 by Jean Pomagalski. Over the years, many great skiers have visited the place to participate in various competitions, including downhill skiing, super G, slalom skiing, freeride skiing, snowboarding etc. Amongst all these are three spots which are famous among both skiers and boarders alike.
1) Entre 2 Lacs
This is one of the most difficult and dangerous skiing spots in the whole of Les Deux Alpes. The route is quite short; it only takes 15 minutes to complete and reaches a height of 3000 meters at an altitude of 2600 m. It was first made available for skiing on 14th February 1972 by Pomagalski and his team of skiers.
2) Super Morzine
This spot is situated on the east face, near the gully between the red and blue runs “La Toussiere” and “Les Chavannes.” This difficult run is approx 2km long, with an average gradient of over 40%. Although this route isn’t very popular amongst intermediate skiers, it provides great views of the Massif de la Vanoise and part of the famous descent “La Sarenne.”
3) Combe Laval
This route is mainly used as a testing ground, allowing advanced skiers to perfect their skills. It was first cleared in 1971 by Jean Pomagalski and his team for this purpose. The run begins from an altitude of 2700 meters at Pointe Percée and reaches a height of 3100 m on the other side. This valley is also home to many endangered species such as marmots and rock ptarmigans.
