Nestled on a high valley of the High Tauern range within the Central Eastern Alps in the state of Carinthia, Austria, Heiligenblut is known as a tourism and mountaineering resort. Heiligenblut am Grossglockner has a population of about 1100, according to a 2009 survey. Recreational gold mining, hiking and skiing are some activities that attract about 900,000 tourists here each year. Some crowd-favorite attractions are :

  • Perhaps, the most recognized image of Heiligenblut is that of a magnificent mountain landscape with lush green foliage and water streams overlooked by the Grossglockner snow-covered pyramid. The Gothic church of St Vincent of Saragossa stands right in the center of this, making it the perfect picture postcard.
  • Motorcycle and sports car drivers maneuver their mean machines along the winding Grossglockner High-Alpine Road. The Road has some scenic look-out spots, the most popular being the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Höhe which takes you at arms-length of the majestic Grossglockner mountain.
  • Try your luck at gold mining while vacationing at the Gold-mining Village in the Fleiss Valley near Heiligenblut. In the meantime, learn about that period in history — the gold rush.
  • Mountains, streams and higher mountains — an adventure park couldn’t be far! The Heiligenblut Adventure Park offers adrenaline junkies a high rope course, climbing wall, playground and more.
  • Finally, for the ones up for a challenge, the peak of the Grossglockner at 3798m is literally Austria’s highest point. And you don’t have to be an expert mountaineer to scale it; a Heiligenblut mountain guide will support you to annex that summit!

When you’re ready to book your post-quarantine vacation, make sure to add Heiligenblut am Grossglockner to your list.
