Bregenz

December 8, 2021

Located on the southeast shores of Constance Lake, Bregenz is the state capital of Vorarlberg, Austria. The primary languages are German, Russian, and Turkish, much like the rest of Austria. The town also boasts of four Gymnasium secondary schools in addition to a commercial college, technical college, and upper secondary business schools.

1. Explore cultural landmarks

Constance Lake is home to the annual world-famous Bregenzer Festspiele, which centers on a massive extravagant floating stage. The festival attracts over 150,000 people every year. The program includes opera, orchestral arrangements, and youth events.

2. Learn the rich history

The area’s history dates back all the way to 1500 BC. It includes several wars and regime changes. One of the more recent historical events is an Allied bombing that took place during World War II, which destroyed 72 buildings. However, several structures survived the attack, including Martin’s Tower, which boasts the world’s largest baroque bulb-shaped steeples.

3. Soak up the local climate

Nestled in the mid-latitudes of the northern hemisphere, Bregenz enjoys a temperate climate year-round. Winters stay above freezing on average, and the summer tends to stay in the mid-70s Fahrenheit. This makes for nearly perfect weather for year-round watersports on the lake.

4. Enjoy winter sports

Pfänder mountain provides an exciting venue for a variety of winter sports. The mountain is part of the Austrian Alps, a world-renowned location for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. The scenic views overlook Constance Lake, and the foothills provide an easier climb for less experienced hikers.
