Avalon is a small city located on Santa Catalina Island, which is a part of Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2010 census, the population of Avalon was just over 3,700 people.

Avalon is known for its beautiful Mediterranean-style architecture, clear blue waters, and scenic hiking trails. It is a popular tourist destination, offering a variety of outdoor activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, and boating. The Avalon Bay, the place offers a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and boat watching. The bay is surrounded by a picturesque park with picnic tables, barbecues, and a playground.

Fun Facts: 

  • It was the location of the first underwater motion picture, which was filmed in the 1920s.
  • It was also a popular destination for Hollywood stars in the 1920s and 1930s, with many celebrities such as Charlie Chaplin and Rudolph Valentino visiting the island.
  • The island was also used as a location for several movies and TV shows, including “Gidget Goes Hawaiian” and “The Wild Wild West.”

  • The Catalina Casino: This iconic building was built in 1929 by William Wrigley Jr., the chewing gum magnate who also owned the island. The building was designed in the Art Deco style and was intended to be a cultural center for the island. The casino features a 12,000-square-foot ballroom, a movie theater, and a museum. The theater was once the largest circular theater in the world, and it still serves as a major cultural center today, hosting concerts, lectures, and other events.
  • The Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden: This garden and monument were built in honor of William Wrigley Jr., who was a major benefactor of the island. The garden features a variety of native and exotic plant species, as well as a memorial to Wrigley that features a bronze bust of him. The Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden also offers great views of the island and the ocean.
  • The Catalina Island Museum: This museum tells the story of the island through its exhibits and artifacts, showcasing the history, culture and natural beauty of the island. The museum has a collection of more than 100,000 artifacts, including an extensive collection of photographs, documents, and objects that provide a glimpse into the island’s past.
  • The Casino Building, also known as the Avalon Theatre: The Casino Building is a cultural hub of the city. It was built in 1929 and was the largest circular theater in the world. The theater has been used as a cinema and a live performance venue, and it still serves as a major cultural center today, hosting concerts, lectures, and other events.
